“Flip for Whales" Sunset Cruise and Yacht Club Party!

​Featuring World Famous, Award Winning National Geographic Photographer Charles “Flip” Nicklin

Saturday, October 20th
The Sunset Cruise is from 4 to 7 pm
The Yacht Club Party is from 7 to 10 pm

Mingle with Flip in an intimate setting. He will:

• share stories of his adventures photographing whales & dolphins around the world;
• give pointers on how to take that perfect “National Geographic” photo;
• sign his book “Among Giants:  A Life with Whales” -  available for purchase.

​The sunset cruise, 4 to 7 pm, departs Moss Landing Harbor on the Blue Ocean Whale Watch’s vessel, “High Spirits”. Special guest Flip Nicklin will be featured along with live music by Jim Davis, wine, appetizers, and a silent and live auction. 

Not a boat person then join us for just the yacht club party:
The yacht club party, 7 to 10 pm, is at the Elkhorn Yacht Club in Moss Landing. Activities include a special presentation by Flip Nicklin and Peggy Stap, Executive Director of Marine Life Studies, live music by composer/pianist Nick Peter Fettis, wine, appetizers, and a silent and live auction. Minimum donation is $125 per ticket. Donations are tax deductible.

Marine Life Studies is sponsoring a couple of the kids from each unit of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Monterey County, Seaside and Salinas units along with their parent/guardian to attend the yacht club party portion of the event - "Flip for Whales"™ Yacht Club Party. Fluke Foundation is sponsoring a child as well.

Flip for Whales”™ is a fundraiser that supports Marine Life Studies’ whale and dolphin research, the Whale Entanglement Team (W.E.T.), and free educational programs for children, youth, and adults. Marine Life Studies, a nonprofit organization, inspires the public to protect our oceans, whales, and dolphins.

​Flip was awarded the North American Nature Photography Association (NANPA) at the 2012 Nature Photography Summit held in Jacksonville, Florida. The NANPA's Outstanding Photography of the Year award goes to an individual who has demonstrated unquestioned skill as a nature photographer.

​Flip is widely regarded as the premier whale photographer of the world. As a National Geographic contributing photographer, he has more than 5,500 dives under his belt. His ability to free dive to depths of up to 90 feet allows him to swim near enough to record whale behavior without interrupting it. His father, Chuck, is a diver and underwater cinematographer so at the age of 14, Flip was helping his father teach people to dive off of the coast of southern California.
