Peggy Stap appears in documentary “Ocean Odyssey” presented by Dan R. Salden, Ph.D. of the Hawaii Whale Research Foundation.
In 2008, The Tokyo Broadcasting System (TBS) filmed the documentary “Ocean Odyssey” in Maui with the Hawaii Whale Research Foundation and Principal Researcher, Dan R. Salden, Ph.D.
Peggy Stap, Marine Life Studies Founder and Director of Research and Education, had an extraordinary opportunity to be a part of this important documentary which provides education to the people of Japan about how research can be done by observing “living” whales. She worked in the water with the Japanese film crew while documenting the behaviors of the humpback whales. Peggy remarks, “The incredible, magnificent and beautiful humpbacks captured the hearts of the Japanese film crew. The joy on their faces after the encounters with the humpbacks was heartwarming and many times members of the film crew hugged me – they were so moved by the experience! All who were involved in the project became great ambassadors for the humpbacks back home in Japan.”
The documentary will be presented at Whale Tales, February 12, 2011 at the Ritz-Carlton in Kapalua, Maui. Peggy is thrilled have been involved in the project. She appears in the documentary. “Ocean Odyssey” directed by Naomi Kawaguchi and starring award-winning actor Hideaki Ito.

Peggy Stap, founder and executive director of Marine Life Studies is scheduled as a panelist at this powerful youth conference sponsored by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Monterey County, the Salinas Union High School District, Mission Trails ROP and Leadership SalinasValley. Peggy will be providing information and guidance to young people about careers in marine mammal education, conversation and research.
The event seeks to inspire and inform local youth on making positive choices today in order to achieve successful future outcomes as they learn from community leaders and professionals about their career paths, engage in informative workshops, are inspired by passionate speakers and participate in a Resource/Demonstration Fair.
