whale rescue research vessel:
"Whale Disentanglement Ambulance"
Our Research Vessel, Current'Sea, is a 40-foot Albin North Sea Cutter that we acquired in 2015 when we realized that we needed a larger operating platform to conduct our research and respond to entangled whales.
We are grateful that we have a safe and operating vessel that is the rapid response boat when a whale is entangled in the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary. This wouldn’t be possible without our generous and passionate donors. R/V Current’Sea is described as a “whale disentanglement ambulance” (the only one of its kind on the West Coast), that responds to entangled whale emergencies. This vessel must be maintained, managed, and equipped with the specialized tools needed for a complete disentanglement response.
