YOU CAN SAVE ENTANGLED WHALES. MARINE LIFE STUDIES CREATED THE WHALE ENTANGLEMENT TEAM (WET)® OVER A DECADE AGO TO HELP RESCUE WHALES. THANK YOU TO ALL FOR MAKING MC GIVES! 2020 A HUGE SUCCESS!!! Thanks to the most important part of our team, our donors, for helping to raise $88,324 through MC Gives! to save whales from life-threatening entanglements. MC GIVES! 2020 IS OVER BUT YOU CAN STILL DONATE - JUST CLICK BUTTON BELOW: We are so proud of Tobi Ho, our high school student intern from Colorado, for producing this incredible video. Hope you enjoy it. FYI, the MC Gives campaign ended on 1/31/2020 so the link shown on the video is no longer valid but we wanted you to see it as Tobi did such a great job. Or you can send a check to: WET, Marine Life Studies, PO Box 163, Moss Landing, CA 95039 Marine Life Studies uses their vessel, Current’Sea, also known as the whale disentanglement ambulance for responding to and saving entangled whales, preventing future entanglements, collecting critical data during whale rescues, and providing a platform for Whale Entanglement Team (WET)® members to train and gain experience. Funds go to the vessel’s maintenance—plus specialized equipment for the disentanglement response—all helping to prevent whales from a slow, painful death and prevent future entanglements of marine wildlife with their proactive fishing-gear-removal project in the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary. "Marine Life Studies provides an imperative service to our local community. They are wonderful educators and selfless sea stewards that protect whales and other marine life in the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary. Being ready around the clock throughout the year to respond to entangled whales is Herculean work. Keeping the sanctuary safeguarded and doing research to educate others protects our environment and stimulates our local economy. We are fortunate to have Marine Life Studies and their research, education, conservation, and whale rescue programs." - Testimonial from Ben Balester of Monterey

Click here to make your donation to help save whales from life-threatening entanglements. Not only does the Whale Entanglement Team (WET)® save entangled whales, we’ve developed a new pilot project to remove derelict fishing gear in the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary (MBNMS). This will prevent future entanglements of whales, turtles, sharks, fish, and other marine wildlife. Unfortunately, there is lost fishing gear and crab/spot prawn pots on the seafloor that don't have buoy markers at the surface. By removing the pots and lines off the seafloor and water column, it reduces the chance of marine life to become entangled. The majority of the gear does not decompose in seawater; wreaking havoc in the marine environment. Meanwhile, we need to manage and maintain our Whale Rescue Research Vessel, Current'Sea. We refer to it as WET's Whale Disentanglement Ambulance. It is the only one of its kind on the west coast of the United States. It is the rapid deployment first response vessel in the MBNMS accommodating all tools/equipment/personnel needed for WET® to free whales from life-threatening entanglements.
